Project: AB VASILOPOULOS GREEN STORE
Location: Stamata
Timeframe: 2011 – 2012
Employer: AB VASILOPOULOS S.A.

The first “GREEN” Super Market to have been constructed in Greece, with an international BREEAM certification. In this Super Market, for which design we are responsible, we used innovative systems described below:

Air conditioning uses the geothermal system. A geothermal heat pump is installed in the basement, with a cooling capacity of 86.7kw and a thermal capacity of 101kw, connected to a geothermal piping network of 8,700m in length. On the terrace, there are air conditioning units with a heat exchanger, which are supplied with hot and cold water by the geothermal heat pump. Inside the store, free cooling is always in operation during the summer season so as to minimize cooling loads in the summer. Outside the building, there are blinds which open and close depending on the sun incidence, minimizing solar irradiation on the building windows.

On the terrace there is a photovoltaic system installation that supplies power to the building. The building is also connected to Medium Voltage by DEI with a low loss electricity AC transformer. There is also a small wind turbine supplying electric power to the building. Lighting systems are designed so that there is dimming compared to the natural light diffused inside the store via zonal phototubes, but also making it possible to minimize light intensity where there is no traffic. All lamps are of low energy consumption.

All rainwater is collected in an underground 165m3 water tank. That water is used to wash WC toilets and for outside watering.

The building has a BMS system that controls all of its functions.
